Something bookish this way comes.

So there's been quite a delay in posts recently and that's all about to change. I officially graduate university in 2 weeks so more time can be spent with books, and obviously this blog :)
So here's a mini list and sneak peek at what's to come over here at Not Quite Alice...

See you all again soon!
(Possibly in a more video-type way too!...) spoilers ;)

13 Reasons Why...

Thirteen Reasons Why
Jay Asher

Thirteen reasons why has earned it's place on my "favourite books ever" list after just one read. Jay Asher's debut novel deserves to be classed as one of the best written books to come out of the past decade...perhaps longer.
The characters, even those we only hear about rather than actually meet, are so impeccably written that it's hard to put the book down. With each passing page you want more and more for it to get to Clay's story, for him to finally be put out of his misery and find out why he's been included in Hannah's tale. You simultaneously hate and love each person who gets a tape recorded about them and how they fit in with everything. What did they do? Why did Hannah do what she did? How do they all connect? WHY CLAY? So many questions...
And yet by the time you turn the last page all those questions are answered, and answered in a way that makes you fall even more in love with the entire novel. This book encompasses basically everything I love about stories and reading.
I can't wait to read more from Jay Asher and I can't wait to read this book over and over again, falling more in love with it each time.
I recommend this book to everyone, it's one of the best books I have read in a very long time and I honestly think that everyone will enjoy it too.

"Don't tell anybody anything. If you do, you'll start missing everybody."

The Catcher in the Rye
J D Salinger

There are very few books which can make me want to read it again as soon as I read the last word. However since the very first time I read The Catcher in the Rye when I was about 13 I've loved it more than any other book (with the exception of HP, obviously). This book is easily one of the greatest works of literature I have ever read, and one of the greatest books ever written. Even if most people I know who have read it hate it.
Personally I think that Holden Caulfield is one of the best written characters I have ever come across and easily one of my favourite characters from a work of fiction ever, second only to Draco Malfoy.
I love this book and reviewing it without talking about certain aspects I love is difficult, but if you haven't read it I don't want to be the one ruining it for you. Each time I read this book I fall more and more in love with it. I recommend this book to anyone and everyone. It's pure brilliance.
J D Salinger is one of my favourite authors, this is my favourite of his works, and simply it's my favourite book. This blog post is more of a "I love this book and please read it" than an actual review but I can't really help it, I just love the book a whole lot.

"Maybe okay can be our always?" "Okay."

The Fault in Our Stars
John Green

As is custom with John Green books, The Fault in Our Stars is composed of beautiful language, wonderful characters, and the ability to make you laugh and cry on demand.
I thought that reading another book about a girl with cancer would leave me underwhelmed as there’s only so much you can do with that storyline. Oh how wrong I was. All the characters in this book made me feel something and the relationships between Hazel and the people in her life are all written so perfectly that it makes you feel…well it makes you feel everything that Hazel does.
Hazel Grace and Augustus have one of the most beautiful written and heart breakingly wonderful relationships that I have read in a long time. Everything about their relationship is honest, emotional, funny, and their story is definitely one that no matter how many times I go back and read it will leave me feeling happy, sad, and basically feeling everything.
John Green is undoubtedly one of my favourite authors, and this book cements the reasons why he should be considered one of the greatest authors we have.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading, and everyone with a love of language. Great read. DFTBA.

"My name's Will Grayson, and I appreciate you Tiny Cooper!"

Will Grayson, Will Grayson
John Green

Going into Will Grayson, Will Grayson I had such high expectations being a huge fan of both John Green and David Levithan. However, no expectations could be high enough for what this book had in store for me. I thought no book could knock Looking For Alaska off the top spot of “Best John Green book ever” however this one did that and so much more.

Each chapter made me happy and sad and question everything. I thought that maybe having two main characters with the same name alternating each chapter might get somewhat confusing however this book was written so wonderfully by both John and David that it doesn’t even enter your mind that it could be anywhere near confusing.
The twists and turns throughout this story make all other books I have read in the past year seem irrelevant. Easily one of the best books I have ever read and even more easily some of the greatest and most interesting characters I have encountered in along time.
From both Wills, to their relationships with Tiny, the way they interact with their friends and family. This is just one of the most enjoyable stories I have come across, and I can see myself re-reading it over and over in the years to come.
Great book. Blew my mind and I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone.

Introduction, of sorts.

Hello there and welcome to Not Quite Alice.
I'm a massive fan of literature, books, and pretty much everything to do with English. I read a lot of books and I wanted some way of documenting the things that I read and what I think and feel about each book.
It'll be like having a book diary, but online and far more interesting for me...
So yeah, hi I'm Not Quite Alice and this is my little blog about books :)
