Top 5...#15

Hello there internet! Now that i have officially finished NaNoWriMo i thought it was about time that i came back to my blog, because i have missed it a whole lot!

And what better way to come back than with a top 5...about my favourite characters!

I was talking to my friend last night about how sad i am that my re-read of the Seasons Series is coming to an end, and he asked me what characters i like the most in the series (and obviously in something like lightning), which was a horribly difficult question! 

So i thought i'd do a top 5 characters from the Something Like... books!

Here we go! (this is the hardest top 5 ever by the way.)

5: Jace Holden - Something Like Autumn

When i first read Something Like Summer, i was not Jace's biggest fan. He was okay, but i just wanted Ben and Tim to be together and Jace was in the way. I regretted thinking that the second i started reading Something Like Autumn. Jace is amazing, and so special. His story broke my heart more than i think anything ever has before. Seeing everything from his perspective, and seeing everything he went through before meeting Ben, it made me love him so much. I just wanted to give him a massive hug throughout the entire book. Jace was the most incredible, loving, and honest character i think i have ever read about, and i take back anything bad i ever thought about him!

4: Kelly Phillips - Something Like Lightning 

I think the first time that you meet Kelly in Spring, it is pretty much an automatic reaction to hate him. Going into Something Like Lightning, i didn't expect to like him, BUT OH MAN. Seeing his and William's relationship, and Jason, from Kelly's perspective changed a lot. I still think that he treated William and Jason terribly, but even he knew that. I did a complete 180 with how i feel about Kelly, i even cried at parts of Lightning - that's how much he changed my mind. I absolutely adored reading from his point of view - and getting to understand his actions a whole lot better.  

3: Ben Bentley - Something Like Summer

Oh Benjamin! How could someone not love Ben? I mean really, he's adorable. Ben is the reason i fell in love with these books, and getting to see little glimpses of his life that aren't covered in his book throughout the series makes me happier than pretty much anything. Ben is the one who starts everything, and so he should. He is the one that everyone loves in one way or another, and the one who is always there when another character needs someone. Benjamin Bentley is hands down one of the nicest characters i have ever read about. Even when he messes up, he only does it because he doesn't want to upset anyone - even if that backfires most of the time. Seeing his feelings for Tim and Jace, and seeing how much he completely loves both of them is so lovely, and so beautifully written, that everyone who reads this book leaves being ever so slightly in love with Ben. And rightfully so.

2: Jason Grant - Something Like Spring

Jason. Jason. Jason. I have so much love for Jason, it's unreal. He is the one character who i wanted everything to work out for. He was the one who deserved happiness the most. And ugh i just love everything about Jason. His friendships with Michelle and Emma. The way he is with the different members of the Hubbard family. His relationship with Ceaser. And obviously, his relationship with William. I loved getting to know Jason, and seeing how he fitted in with all the other characters that i had loved before. It was so amazing to see how much he changed while still staying the same...wow that was terribly cliched, but you get my point. Seeing him change throughout his story, and yet him still being the same from start to finish was amazing, and i hope we see more of him someday.

1: Tim Wyman - Something Like Winter

Oh Mr Wyman, i love you so. Tim is basically tied with Draco Malfoy as my favourite fictional character of all time. Right from his introduction in Something Like Summer i knew that he was going to be amazing. And i was so right. Every time Tim comes up in any of the Something Like... books this massive smile appears, and i can't control it anymore. He is so wonderfully written, and his character is so amazingly complex, that i could read 100 books about his life, and still probably want to read more. There's a certain part in Something Like Spring that i just passed in my re-read that makes me cry everytime, even though i know everything will be okay this massive panic comes over me and i have to keep reading just so i can assure myself that nothing has changed and that he's going to be fine. I can never find the right words to explain how much of an incredible character i think Tim is, and i am so glad i decided to pick up Something Like Summer that first time.

I didn't mean to have my top 5 be the main characters in each book, but they are the ones we know the most, and they're just the five guys that make me so incredibly happy. So, thanks Jay Bell for writing the best load of books i've read. You're the best. (p.s. if you ever feel like writing books about Nathaniel, William, and Ceaser - i'll be the first to buy them! :P)

Top 5...#14

Hello again internet! So today i'm going to do another top 5, only this one is more of a sequel to my top 5 #2. It's been a while since i thought over what my books on my kindle are my favourite - so here it is. Top 5 on my kindle round 2!

Here we go!!

5: The Distance Between Us by Kasie West

I really liked this cute little story. I had some issues with how it ended and what happened towards the end, but overall i really enjoyed the book, and if i ever want a cute little pick me up kind of book i'll probably head over to this one. I loved the characters, the story, the interactions between characters, the relationships (family, friends, love...all were great) and i just had a good time reading it.

4: A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

Oh man do i love a bit of Game of Thrones. I bloody loved reading this on my kindle, because i could carry it around with me and it didn't fill my entire bag like the rest of the series does! (why did i get physical copies of the rest of the books?!) But i love the whole world of the Song Of Ice and Fire series. I love the characters, the way they interact with each other...everything.

3: You're The One That I Want by Giovanna Fletcher

I think everyone knows that i adore a good old romance book, and that's what i thought i was getting - i didn't sign on for the emotions this book caused! Damn you Mrs Fletcher! I absolutely adored reading this and i want more stories about all three of the characters!! Oh man was it good. It twisted and turned so much that i had no idea how it would end, but i knew it would end with my tears no matter what - and i was so right. I love a book that can make me happy cry.

2: Something Like Lightning by Jay Bell (Storms book one)

Speaking of happy crying...and sad crying...and everything in between. I think that it comes as a surprise to literally no one that i love Jay Bell's writing, and Something Like Lightning was oh so perfect. I loved Kelly. I loved Nathaniel. I loved William. I even loved Jason. And oh man am i happy that my three favourite people made a return! I could read about the characters in Jay Bell's world forever and still want more. I cannot express how much i enjoyed this book, and it had me in tears and laughing in equal measures, and that's all i want in a book.

1: Something Like Winter by Jay Bell (Seasons book two)

Now this is a surprise...yeah thought not. Something Like Winter is easily in my top 3 favourite books of all time - right up there with The Catcher in the Rye and Thirteen Reasons Why, and i cannot tell you how much i love it. Tim is pretty much my favourite fictional character to read about ever (so i was super happy we saw him in Lightning!) and getting to see the story i loved so much from Something Like Summer told from his perspective was SO GOOD and i couldn't have asked for more. It was the perfect addition to a story i already adored, and i just can't explain how happy i am that i found this series, and that i found out about Jay Bell in general. If you still haven't read any of his books, stop what you're doing and go read one...or all of them! Seriously, Jay Bell can do no wrong, his books are my happy place. They're always exactly what i want, and i love them all so much. Pretty much all of his books are on my kindle so take this spot as a mix of it SLW being first, and Jay Bell in general being first.

Hello there internet! I'm doing another Top 5 today, but this one is a little different, and a little special. As we're half way through 2014 already (omg!) i thought i'd look back at the books i have read this year and pick out the five i enjoyed the most!

Let's go!

5: Like and Subscribe by Jay Bell

I adored this story! It was 47 pages of terrific story, and wonderful characters! I've never fallen in love with characters quite that fast. Evan and Orlando were so great, and i loved how they developed. I think anyone who watches youtubers or makes youtube videos should read this story. It was so wonderful, and so perfect. Jay Bell knows how to write a story, break your heart, and then fix it all over again.

4: Shut Out by Kody Keplinger

Every teenage girl, no actually any girl really, needs to read this book. It covers some topics that i think really, really need more coverage in YA, and it's done in such a great way. I have so many feelings about this book, and i know it's one i'm not going to be forgetting for a long, long time. Kody Keplinger really nailed it.

3: City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare

This is the most wonderful ending to a series i have ever read, and i have a whole lot of feelings about it (which you can read some of here). I loved how even in the last book we were introduced to new characters, still had character development for characters that we already love, and had the great, bittersweet ending. Amazing ending, so much love for Cassandra Clare.

2: Between the Lives by Jessica Shirvington

I don't think anyone will be surprised at how much i loved this book. It's one of those books that i know i will remember forever, and will go back again and again, because honestly as soon as i finished it it went into my favourite books list. I loved the characters, the plot, the twists, everything. It was so, so, so great, and i hope everyone gives it a read!

and finally, the best book i've read so far this year is...

1: Something Like Winter by Jay Bell

I could honestly put all of the Something Like... books here because honestly they're the best books i've read in a long time. The characters are perfect, the writing is amazing, the story is wonderful, i just love everything about it. Tim was my favourite character from Something Like Summer, and getting to see things from his side was everything i could have ever wanted and more. Jay Bell has really nailed the whole 'make people fall in love with every character, even the ones you hate - you love' thing. Something Like Winter is my favourite book in the series (even though i love them all and it's pretty hard to pick a favourite), i think it's because Tim is one of my favourite characters i have ever read about. I think everyone should read these books, because they are absolutely amazing, will break your heart, re-build your heart, and make you feel all of the feels. I love Jay Bell's writing, and this one is just the most perfect example of how to write the most realistic relationships and characters.

Top 5...#11

Hey internet! I thought that today i'd take a break from the non-stop reviews and bring back one of my favourite posts to do: my top 5's!

Seeing as over the past couple of weeks i've been on a kind of Mortal Instruments high i figured i'd carry on with that theme and do my top 5 characters from The Mortal Instruments!

Let's go!

5 - Simon Lewis.

I adore Simon. He's funny, sarcastic, caring, and most of all, he's so real. He's such a great friend and one of the best characters i have ever read about. I think he deserved more from the series, people didn't treat him the best and that makes me sad, but him and Isabelle man, that was just...i can't even describe how happy that made me throughout the books. I love Simon, and i'm so glad he was in the books as much as he was.

4 - Jace.

I love Jace. He is the ultimate 'oh man i love him' character. He goes through SO MUCH in the series and parts of it make me so sad. I just want to constantly reach into the books and give him the biggest hug possible. Poor little baby. 

3 - Magnus Bane.

I love Magnus. Magnus is the most straight talking person in the series, and i love him so much for it. He's so funny, and he doesn't really care what people think, and he loves Alec so much that it makes me really happy. He is one of the most interesting characters in the series and learning more about him is so great. 

2 - Alec Lightwood.

So maybe i just love the Lightwoods? Alec is the fictional character that i would most want to have in my actual life. I love how much he cares about other people. He cares so much about his siblings, about Jace, about Magnus...i just love him so much. His development through the series is one of my favourite character developments of all time, and his relationship in the series is probably the relationship i care most about in pretty much all of YA.

1 - Isabelle Lightwood.

I love Isabelle. She's smart, funny, kick-ass, sarcastic, and so so so so important to the series! To me she's like the best written female characters i have ever read. She's not a one dimensional person, she has flaws and she has strengths and she has feelings, and most importantly she actually thinks about something other than a boy. She develops so much through the series, and i love her so much.

Top 5...#10

Hello again internet! I'm here today with another installment of my top 5 series. This time i'm going to be looking at the top five authors that made me the reader that i am today. 

These authors basically started my love of reading from a young age, and they still rank high in my all time favourite authors. The type of stories they write may be quite different, but without all five of them my reading habits today would be very different, if they even existed at all.

So here we go!



5: Meg Cabot

Meg Cabot is one of my heroes in all honesty. The Princess Diaries, All American Girl, Avalon High, Abandon, the list goes on and on. The Princess Diaries are some of my favourite books of all time and i adore Meg Cabot's writing style. I think that Meg Cabot really inspired my reading, and she has definitely had an impact on my writing style!

4: Lemony Snicket

A Series of Unfortunate Events was all i cared about once upon a time. They were all i read, all i talked about, and i eagerly awaited the day that someone would turn them into a film or tv show. I loved the sarcastic tone of the books, and the way that although they were children's books, they weren't written as though he was talking to a child, but rather like he was talking to an equal. I still adore these books and i think a lot of my humor developed due to Lemony Snicket.

3: R.L.Stine

I credit R.L.Stine with being the cause of a few of my fears, and also for my love of horror. The Goosebumps books taught me that being creeped out and scared isn't always a bad thing, sometimes it's great. I love horror films and horror books so so so much and i know that started with R.L.Stine, with Goosebumps and his Point Horror books he made me realise how amazing horror is. I would be such a different person, and reader, without the imput of R.L.Stine.

2: Jacqueline Wilson

Jacqueline Wilson was hands down my favourite author growing up. I adore absolutely everything i have ever read by her, and i still go back to a lot of my old favourites. What made Jacqueline Wilson books so amazing was the fact that they didn't feature exceptional people, or people with special powers, just ordinary people living in the ordinary world, and that's what i needed growing up. I needed people to look up to that made sense in the world i lived in. Ellie from Girls Under Pressure was essentially my hero growing up and i will never be able to explain how grateful i am that Jacqueline Wilson wrote such amazing characters.

1: J.K.Rowling

I don't think it's much of a surprise that J.K. has the number one spot here. If it wasn't for Harry Potter i would be a completely different person. I often see people say that HP changed their lives, but The Philosopher's Stone came out when i was 5, and that's when my parents first read it to me, so i've grown up with the books, and while they didn't change my life, they definitely shaped my life. I owe J.K.Rowling and the Harry Potter series so much, because i honestly believe that around 90% of my personality is made up of what i've learned and loved from Harry, and i love that i still have that love for a book series that's been there for the past 16 years.

Hello there internet! Today i'm here with another of my Top 5's, this time i'm going on over to the BookTube community and discussing the Top 5 BookTubers i have loved watching during 2013!

Now i love a lot of the people in the BookTube community and it has been really hard to narrow it down to five, but i did it! So, if you haven't already, go and check out all these wonderful people!

5 - Jesse (jessethereader)

Okay so i've gone back to try and find exactly when i started watching Jesse's videos and i'm pretty sure this video was the first one of his i watched, and then i immediately subscribed. I love Jesse's videos and i think he seems like one of the nicest guys in the world. His videos put a smile on my face and he has an awesome taste in books! 

4 - Raeleen (padfootandprongs07)

So this is the first video of Raeleen's i ever watched, and that was back at the end of 2011...i so didn't think it was that long ago! But i love Raeleen's channel. Her reviews are great, her tags are great, she's just great really. I'm pretty sure she was the first person from BookTube that i ever watched, and i'm still watching her videos 2 years later, so clearly she's one of the best ones!

3 - Catriona (LittleBookOwl)

Catriona is probably one of my favourite people on YouTube in general. Her videos are funny and she seems really awesome and  she has a great taste in books, which is always a good thing! She genuinely seems like one of the nicest people and i just love watching her videos because she seems so lovely. I honestly cannot remember when i started watching her videos, or what the first one was, but they're all great so you should definitely check her out!

2 - Ben (benjaminoftomes)

Okay i'm pretty sure Ben is the only English BookTuber i watch? And he's great! (wow how many times can i say great in one post?) Ben makes me laugh in basically every video he posts and i really love that. He's probably also the BookTuber i think has the most similar taste in books..? Maybe? Either way he likes really great books, and he makes really great videos and subscribing to him was one of the best things i did YouTube wise in 2013!

1 - Ariel (Ariel Bissett )

Ariel is not only my favourite BookTuber, she is also just my favourite person on the whole of YouTube and the internet in general. I adore all of her videos. She makes me laugh, and she makes me think about things, she makes me want to read books i wouldn't normally read, and her videos just generally make me happy. I started watching her videos from, i think, the third video she put up on her channel? (I know she had a channel before, but i'm not 100% on what that was called...) But i found her on 'Ariel Bissett' and i've just loved her and her videos ever since!

So there we go! My top 5 BookTubers of 2013! I can't wait to see more from them and the rest of the wonderful BookTubers that i watch in 2014, and i hope you all have a wonderful New Years!

Hello again internet! I'm back with another one of my favourite posts to write, there's something that i just really enjoy about sitting down and writing a post about my top five somthings. Today i thought i'd talk about a group of books i adore reading, classics!

Here we go!

5: Emma by Jane Austen

I adore everything i have ever read by Jane Austen, and while everyone i speak to says that Pride and Prejudice or Sense and Sensibility is their favourite Austen novel, there has just always been something about Emma that makes is my favourite of her works. I love the characters, the plot, everything really. Austen said that when she wrote Emma; "I am going to take a heroine whom no one but myself will much like." And by describing her in the very first sentence as "handsome, clever, and rich" she was probably going to be right. But i love her. Emma is one of my favourite fictional females and i just love everything about this story.

4: Lord of the Flies by William Golding 

I bloody love this book. Everyone i have ever spoke to about this book has told me that they hated it, and i have no idea why. Maybe it's because they had to read it at school and they didn't like the way it was taught? I don't know, but whatever reason they have for hating this book is lost on me because i think it's one of the greatest things i have ever read. Maybe i love it because, along with the next book on the list, it is my mother's favourite book and that love has been passed down? Or maybe it's because it's just a wonderfully written book which i adore so, so, so much.

3: To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee

Ugh this book. This is my mother's favourite book in the world, and i can definitely see why. I love the way this book is written, the characters, the plot, everything really. This book is one of the few books that has made me want to cry, while still loving everything about it. The first time i read To Kill A Mockingbird i honestly thought i was going to hate it, but i loved it so much, and every time i've read it since i've just loved it more and more. 

2: Dracula by Bram Stoker

This book is hands down one of my favourite books in the world. Vampires have always been something i've kind of obsessed over (Mona the Vampire, Buffy, Vampire Diaries, anything i could find with any mention of vampires) and Dracula truly is the reason the term 'the original and the best' exists. Dracula is perfect okay. There is nothing about this book that i can find that i don't love. Everyone knows the story of Dracula, i'm pretty sure there's more adaptations of Dracula than anything else in the world, but if you've never read the book i couldn't recommend it more if i tried! It's just an incredible book.

1: The Catcher in the Rye by J.D.Salinger

Oh what a surprise, Meghan's put Catcher at the number one spot on a top five! I don't care, it is easily the best book i have ever read in my life and i love it more than anything! Catcher is that book that when you read it you just know that it is going to change your life. I know that seems like such a stupid thing to say but it really did change my life, i first read it at the point in my life where a book really can change everything and mean so much to you that no book could ever compare. I always say that HP changed my life because it made me fall completely in love with reading, but really it was Catcher that made me realise how something as simple as words on a page can make you feel so much and can change your opinions on everything and just ugh i love this book more than i could express in words.

Top 5...#6

Hello again internet, i'm back with another of my top 5. Now if you know me even a little bit you probably know that i love John Green both as an author and as a human. So i thought that i would do a top five dedicated to characters in John Green books. Oh i am excited about this!

5 - Alaska from Looking For Alaska

Alaska is the main girl in Looking For Alaska (big shock, i know) and i absolutely adore her character. I love the way she interacts with the other characters, and she is nowhere near perfect in the way she treats people or in the way she acts, but that's kind of what i love about her. I think John Green writes her wonderfully and she is one of my favourite characters from a book ever, let alone just from John's books.

4 - Will Grayson from Will Grayson, Will Grayson

WG, WG was written by John Green and David Levithan, and in all honestly i love every single character in the book. I think the entire thing is incredible. However, the Will Grayson which John writes is one of my favourite characters to read from the perspective of. I adore him. I love the way he talks to and about the other Will, Tiny, Jane, everyone really. He's just one of my favourites and if you read the book he'll probably become one of yours too. (I mean he might not, but i think he will because he's great.)

3 - Pudge from Looking For Alaska

Pudge, Pudge, Pudge. I love you. Pudge is the nickname given to Miles in LFA and is the one who's perspective the book is told. I love that he is obsessed with the last words of famous people, and i love his friendship with his roommate, and i love his friendship with Alaska, i love everything about him really. LFA was the first John Green book i read, and Pudge was the first reason i fell in love with the way John writes. I love everything about LFA and Pudge is likw 90% of the reason. (I mean he gets compared to Holden Caulfield a lot and he's my favourite character ever so maybe that's why..?)

2 - Isaac from The Fault in Our Stars

Oh Isaac, i'm sorry you're not first. If you have ever seen/heard me talk about TFiOS i always, always, say that Isaac is my favourite character, and he is...mainly. I think he is funny, and adorable, and charming, and the best friend anyone could ever have, and he's just a million times better than anyone. So he should probably be first, but he's not, for reasons. But i do love him, in fact i love everyone in this book (it's amazing, go read it if you haven't) and i'm so beyond excited for the movie (plus Nat Wolff who plays Isaac is BEAUTIFUL) and i can't wait to see Isaac come to life, because he is genuinely the nicest character i have ever read about.

And finally, the reason Isaac isn't number one...

1 - Augustus Waters from The Fault in Our Stars

Ahhh Augustus. If you have read TFiOS then you should know why Augustus is number one. He is funny, sarcastic, sweet, kind, amazing, beautiful, and just the best. He is one of the best characters i have ever read about and he makes me laugh, cry, angry, everything. I love him. And i can't wait to see how amazing he is on screen and out of a book. (Ansel Elgort is beautiful too btw) TFiOS has the best written characters i think i've ever read and Augustus is just at the top of a very long list of amazing characters from an amazing book.

(also, i love basically everyone in Paper Towns and An Abundance of Katherines too, but ya know top 5 can only be 5 people...)

Top 5...#5

Hey there internet, it's been a while. So as i've said before on here i graduated from university back in July and as of last Monday i have officially started studying for my MA at a new university. So far it has been really, really, really good but unfortunately there was a lot of prep reading for the degree and since then it hasn't really stopped, so this blog has kind of been on the back burner. However i think i should be able to start uploading posts more regularly from now on :D

In honour of it being the month of October and the fact that Halloween is quickly approaching, and i LOVE Halloween, i thought i would do a Top 5...Halloween/Horror/Creepy books! Yeah, can you tell i couldn't decide which one to go for?

HERE WE GOOO!!!!

5. The Shining - Stephen King

"A family heads to an isolated hotel for the winter where an evil and spiritual presence influences the father into violence, while his psychic son sees horrific forebodings from the past and from the future."

I LOVE Stephen King, and The Shining is one of my all time favourite horror stories. Both the book and the film are things that i love to read and watch over and over, and i think that October and Halloween make the perfect time to read such a creepy story. I love the way this book is written, and the way the characters just come to life and creep the hell out of you and i think that if you're looking for a good halloween book that has that perfect mix of human depravity and supernatural scares then this is definitely the book to go for!

4. Ring - Koji Suzuki

"In Japan, a mysterious video is killing whoever views it, unless that viewer can solve its mystery."

I adore this book. Maybe that's not the word that should come to mind when thinking about a book which is focused on scaring the hell out of anyone who reads it, but i really do adore it. I love the way that Suzuki has made something so simple and good as home movies into something so terrifyingly sinister. If, somehow, you've never heard of this story i'll make it simple for you: there is a video tape making it's way around Japan that, after you watch it, gives you seven days before it kills you, and in those seven days you must figure out its secret to stay alive. Now i love the idea of this story, and unfortunately for me, i saw the american movie adaptation before i read this book, and even before i watched the 1998 Japanese adaptation, which kind of sucks, but the basic story stays the same throughout and i absolutely love it. Horror is something that Japan always seems to excel in, and this is definitely proof of that.

3. Carrie - Stephen King

"A young, abused, and timid 17 year old girl discovers she has the power of telekinesis, and gets pushed to the limit on the night of her high school'd prom."

Oh Carrie, you poor, poor girl. So Stephen King is making his second appearance on this list, with his amazing story: Carrie. Carrie has been my number one SK novel ever since the first time i read it. I think there's definitely a reason it's one of his most famous works, if not the most famous. He makes you feel basically every emotion you're able to feel, and all in such a short book. I think that everyone who reads Carrie falls in love with it for different reasons, but there is a reason this book has inspired so many adaptations - IT'S AMAZING. I love the book, i love the 1980 movie adaptation, and i cannot wait to see the new adaptation when it finally comes out in the UK. It's the perfect October/Halloween read.

2. Death Note - Tsugumi Ohba

"An intelligent high school student goes on a secret crusade to eliminate criminals from the world after discovering a notebook capable of killing anyone whose name is written into it."

This is the only non-novel that's made it onto one of my 'Top 5's' and that's because it's just so damn amazing. I love the Death Note series, i love L, i love Light, i love Ryuk, i love everything about it. I think it's such a wonderfully written, and illustrated, story and it's one of the few series that had me gripped from the very first page til the very last page. I think it's wonderful and with the whole God of Death, people dying, supernatural-ly feel, this series is perfect to pick up if you're in the mood for something a little bit different for October/Halloween. I know that i'm going to re-read it on the 31st, and i couldn't recommend it more to anyone that's even slightly interested in manga/graphic novels.

1. Dracula - Bram Stoker

"The original, and best, Vampire novel. Dracula is the guy you don't want to mess with."

What can i say about Dracula here that i haven't already said on this blog? Probably nothing, but it definitely deserves to be in the number one spot on a list about the best October/Halloween books because, you know, it's DRACULA. I love this book, and i'm pretty sure everyone already knows that, so i won't say much, but i seriously could not recommend this book more to everyone who likes horror, or who likes classics, because it really is one of the greats. Also, reading this would go great with watching the new series with Jonathan Rhys Myers ;)

Top 5...#4

After watching City of Bones last night, I'm inspired to do another top 5, this time listing my top 5 book to movie adaptations. This could be fun :)

5: The Perks of Being A Wallflower

For me, this was probably the most true to book adaptation of the ones in this list, and I love both the book and the movie, but for some reason (that escapes even me) i can't bring myself to rank it higher. Maybe it's because I like a bit of 'creative license' or whatever when it comes to book adaptations, or maybe it's because this is the book/film that makes me break down into a mess of tears each time I read/watch it? Either way I think this is an amazing adaptation, and I highly recommend both book and movie to everyone, because they are both spectacular! 

4: I Am Number Four

I have no idea why I love this movie so much, but I really do. I was so happy that this got turned into a film and I think that might be why I love it so much? Maybe? Whatever the reason the book and film both make me happy. I think Alex Pettyfer plays a wonderful Number Four and I just really love getting lost in this story, whether it be by page or screen. I've never really been into books about aliens, but this is one of the few that really stole my heart. It might not be the best in the world, but it's one of the books (and one of the films) that just makes me really happy. And that's all I want from it.

3: The Hunger Games

Now before I get into this I just want to say that the whole part about Peeta's leg being changed for the film still really annoys me, but I understand why they did it. Okay, now that's covered...I really love the adaptation of the Hunger Games and I cannot wait for Catching Fire to be released!! I adore this series, and the film made the world so real for me that I don't really care about any changes they've made (depending on what they do with Catching Fire and Mockingjay...). I love the world Suzanne Collins made and seeing that comes to life makes me really happy.

2: City Of Bones

Omg I really, really, really LOVED the film. SO MUCH LOVE. Even the parts they changed from the book (like the whole Simon/rat/vampires scene) I loved, because as much as I love the book (and believe me that is A LOT) I thought the changes made the film flow much better, and made the film more realistic...you know as realistic as a film about Shadowhunters, Demons, and Downworlders can be... I love this book more than most things, and I can tell that as soon as I get my hands on the DVD of this film it will be constantly on repeat. (Also I'm going to see it again next week, so I'm a very happy Meghan). This is just easily one of my favourite things to happen as far as book to movie adaptations goes and I'm really excited to see what they do with City of Ashes and co. 

1: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows

Now I love all the Harry Potter films, I don't care. Anything HP related I love, and I know a lot was changed/missing in the films but I'm fine with that because I realised a long time ago that for me they could just be two separate things. The books and the movies. Since then I've loved the films even more. For me the two Deathly Hallows films were the best adaptations in the series, possibly because they were the most beautifully shot, or because the build up to the battle was brilliant, or just because I knew it was ending and it made me sad and therefore more attached? Whatever the reason I thought they were outstanding. I loved everything about them. I wish I could just put all the HP films on here because I honestly love them all to death, but DH definitely wins best adaptation in my eyes.

Top 5...#3

Today I thought I'd do another top 5, and this one was probably the hardest one to work out, but it's one that is definitely going to have 5 of my all time favourites because I'm going to list my top 5...Harry Potter books! (I am aware there's only 7!)

5: The Prisoner of Azkaban 

I adore this book. Sirius is one of my all time favourite characters from everything, and this book definitely started that love. I just love everything about the story, and I love the relationships that form between Harry and Sirius and Harry and Remus. 

4: The Deathly Hallows

I think this is the HP book I've probably read the most (other than the book in the number one slot.) and I just adore everything about it. I love the the story of the three brothers and it's just a wonderful book to read, apart from Snape... Oh Snape :'(

3: The Half Blood Prince

Snape baby, I love you. I love this book. When it came out I remember my friends that were into HP at the time (there wasn't that many...) were all so sad about Dumbledore, but I was never his biggest fan, so this book doesn't make me as sad as most people I've spoken to about it, but it is definitely one of my favourites. I love everything about it. 

2: The Philosophers Stone

This book started it all and I love it more than pretty much everything because it's basically the reason I'm who I am today. Harry Potter is the reason i like the stuff I do today and it's the reason I love books and reading so much and this is the book that started all that off. I love this book and I owe this book a lot.

Finally....

1: The Goblet of Fire

Oh Em Gee I love this book more than basically everything in existence. It's my favourite of the HP books, it's my favourite of the films, it's just my favourite everything. I love everything about this story and ugh I just love it. Cedric, baby, I love you more than basically everyone. This is just the most perfect book in my eyes.

Back again with another top five :) this time it's: Top 5 on my kindle

I love my kindle and I love all the books on there (that I've read...) so some of these were pretty hard to think of :) 

5: The Raven by Edgar Allan Poe

Poe is my favourite poet by far and The Raven is what made me want to read more from him. I'm pretty sure this was the second thing I downloaded as soon as I got my kindle because I wanted to read it again and again, without taking a massive collection of Poe around with me. 

4: Dracula by Bram Stoker

This was the first thing I downloaded onto my kindle, and it's basically just because I love the story so much. Including my kindle edition I have about 6 copies of this book I think? I love it.

3: Les Misérables by Victor Hugo

Ugh I love les mis! I love the stage version, the film, the book, everything. And I love that I can read this when I'm travelling without having to carry around a 900 page book!

2: Superheroes: The Best of Philosophy and Pop Culture by William Irwin

I adore the philosophy and pop culture books, and when I downloaded this one I think that took my total to about 8 different ones that I own? I love philosophy more than most things, and superheroes are something I've loved since I was tiny (thanks to my big brother) and this book was just amazingly wonderful to read.

1: The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

I really, really wanted to read this ages and ages ago but I couldn't find it anywhere so I downloaded it and fell completely, 100%, madly in love with it. I have the rest of the series in physical form, but I still love that I have this one on my kindle and not physical copy because it's how I fell in love with the world and I like remembering that when I re-read it (like I am now) :).

Top 5... #1

Hey there Internet! :) I've decided to do a new series type thing over here on my blog where I talk about my "top 5" I certain types of books. I love a lot of different types of books and I thought this would be a good way to talk about all the different kind of books I love.

To start lets look at: Top 5 Series

5 : Fallen

I love, love, love the fallen series. I love the premise and plot of the series and I love (almost) all of the characters. Cam and Daniel are two of my favourite characters in a book and I love the weird friendship/hatred thing that they have going on. Yeah I just really like the series.

4 : The Hunger Games

Who doesn't love the Hunger Games series?! The world Suzanne Collins created in these books is one of my favourite worlds that I've ever read. I love pretty much everything about this series, some parts of each book kind of disappointed me, well apart from Catching Fire which was just amazing.

3 : The Winter Trilogy

Ugh I love these books so so so so much. Anna and Seth are one of my favourite couples ever, and I love every other character, even the ones I hate I love. They're just brilliantly written and completely addictive. Just, ugh I love them. 

2 : The Mortal Instruments

Oh come on everyone should read and love this series! Jace is basically the love of my life (just don't tell Draco...) and the world is one of the greatest places to escape to ever. Each word makes you fall more in love with the series and each character is so wonderfully written that you feel like you know them better than most people you actually know. It's basically a perfect series. 

1 : Harry Potter

Obviously. The most amazing, wonderful, perfect collection of books ever. Everyone loves Harry Potter, if you dot then you are definitely wrong... Without being to clichè these books changed my life, and without them I know that my life would be completely different. So yeah, no books will ever beat the love I have for Harry Potter. And, you know, it has Draco...
