Books on my Tablet #1

Hello there internet!

Today i thought i'd do a sort of mini-haul to go along with my haul video that i did earlier this week.

This one however, is all about the books i've downloaded onto my
new tablet. So much new space for books!

Here we go!

Treasure Island - Robert Louis Stevensen

Treasure Island is something i've always wanted to read and yet for some reason have never picked up. So when i saw it on the bookstore i had to download it straight away!
I'm so excited to get into this one soon!

The Three Musketeers - Alexandre Dumas

I have loved the story of the three musketeers as far back as i can remember, so obviously when i saw it on the bookstore i had to have it right away.
Hopefully i'll get to this one soon!!

Wuthering Heights - Emily Bronte

This is one of my mum's favourite books, yet i've never read it! No idea why, so i thought i'd download it for whenever i feel like getting into a classic that i'm 99% sure i'll enjoy - i have watched so many adaptations i'm bound to love it!

Shakespeare's Sonnets - William Shakespeare

I love Shakespeare. So much. I actually own a physical collection of all of Shakespeare's works, but i thought this would be a nice little thing to have on my tablet for any train journeys, and it definitely came in handy on my trains to and from Leeds!

Critique of Pure Reason - Immanuel Kant

Kant is my all time favourite philosopher. And this ebook version is my...third?..fourth?..i can't remember...anyway it is one of many copies i have of this book.
It's just so good!

The Importance of Being Earnest - Oscar Wilde

Oscar Wilde is one of those authors who i know so much about, and find fascinating as a person, and yet i don't think i've ever read any of his works?
I own a physical copy of The Picture of Dorian Gray, so sometime soon i plan on marathoning these two books together.

A Tale of Two Cities - Charles Dickens

I love Charles Dickens so much. I'm pretty sure i already own this both in physical form and on my kindle, and yet i really, really wanted a copy on my tablet.
I love the way Dickens writes, so this will definitely be read many times!

Kant's Theory of Religion - Immanuel Kant

Again, Kant is my favourite philosopher.
My undergraduate dissertation actually featured this book pretty heavily, and yet it's the only work of Kant's i don't have in physical form.
At least now i actually own the book i spent a year analysing!

And there we have it!
All the books that i have downloaded to my tablet so far!

I'm very excited to dive right into these beauties!

Book Haul!

Hello again internet!

Today i actually had time to sit down and make another YouTube video. Finally! I am so glad that my degree has finished so that i can get back into the swing of things when it comes to my blog and YouTube :D

I thought i'd ease myself back into the YouTube world with a book haul! Most of these books probably shouldn't have been bought seeing as i put myself on a book buying ban...but oh well!

Here we go!

See you next time!

Kindle Book Haul

Hey internet! I'm here today with a little post about the books that i have bought on my kindle recently.

I have just uploaded a video showing all of the physical books that i have bought over the past few weeks, which you can see here, so i thought that i would write up a post about all of the eBooks that i have bought over the past couple of weeks.

Let's go! :)

1 - A Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin

'Summers span decades. Winter can last a lifetime. And the struggle for the Iron Throne has begun.

As Warden of the north, Lord Eddard Stark counts it a curse when King Robert bestows on him the office of the Hand. His honour weighs him down at court where a true man does what he will, not what he must … and a dead enemy is a thing of beauty.

The old gods have no power in the south, Stark’s family is split and there is treachery at court. Worse, the vengeance-mad heir of the deposed Dragon King has grown to maturity in exile in the Free Cities. He claims the Iron Throne.'

2 - Talented by Sophie Davis

'Block it out. Impossible for Talia Lyons. When you’re a Mind Manipulator, it’s hard enough to block the thoughts of others, let alone your own.'

3 - Evil: A True Story by Laurence Cole

'A terrifying story of demonic possession and drug abuse that led to a triple homicide. This story is written by one of the mental health staff who dealt with the perpetrator and who became convinced that there was an occult force behind the madness. A true story of a first hand experience.'

4 - UnEnchanted by Chandra Hahn

'Mina Grime is unlucky, unpopular and uncoordinated; that is until she saves her crush's life on a field trip, changing her High School status from loser to hero overnight.

But with her new found fame brings misfortune in the form of an old family curse come to light. For Mina is a descendant from the Brothers Grimm and has inherited all of their unfinished fairy tale business which includes trying to outwit a powerful Story from making her its' next fairy-tale victim.'

5 - Promise You Won't Tell? by John Locke

'“I think something might have happened to me Saturday night. Something bad.”

Private Investigator Dani Ripper’s client list is nuttier than the Looney Tunes conga line, but she diligently solves one crazy case after another, waiting for a game-changer.

Enter Riley Freeman, 17-year-old honor student.

Saturday afternoon Riley quietly placed a little strawberry sticker on her private area and pretended it was a tattoo. She didn’t tell anyone about it. That night she went to a slumber party that featured drinking and boys. Riley fell asleep, woke up the next day with no reason to think anything happened…Until Monday, at school, when a classmate called her Strawberry. Coincidence or crime? Dani agrees to investigate. And the roller coaster ride begins.'

6 - You're The One That I Want by Giovanna Fletcher

'Maddy, dressed in white, stands at the back of the church. At the end of the aisle is Rob - the man she's about to marry. Next to Rob is Ben - best man and the best friend any two people ever had.

And that's the problem.

Because if it wasn't Rob waiting for her at the altar, there's a strong chance it would be Ben. Loyal and sensitive Ben has always kept his feelings to himself, but if he turned round and told Maddy she was making a mistake, would she listen? And would he be right?

Best friends since childhood, Maddy, Ben and Rob thought their bond was unbreakable. But love changes everything. Maddy has a choice to make but will she choose wisely? Her heart, and the hearts of the two best men she knows, depend on it...'

7 - Teen Fury: Unleashed by Amanda Torrey

'Adopted at birth, fifteen year old Felicia Murphy has no idea she's the offspring of a Fury and a god of Mercy. The discovery will soon shatter her world...

Felicia's reputation as stable and trustworthy means everything if she's to win the grant for the troubled kids she mentors. Snakes emerging from her head, massive mood swings, and a strong thirst for vengeance do not fit into her plans. She has no time to worry about her adoptive parent's separation and the unwanted discovery that her biological parents are supernatural freaks. She can't confide in her friends; who would believe her?'

8 - Boy Nobody by Allen Zadoff

- I actually read this last year, but i left my copy on a train coming back from Leeds, so i thought i'd download a new copy so i can re-read before i read the sequel. -

'Boy Nobody is the perennial new kid in school, the one few notice and nobody thinks much about. He shows up in a new high school, in a new town, under a new name, makes few friends and doesn't stay long. Just long enough for someone in his new friend's family to die -- of "natural causes." Mission accomplished, Boy Nobody disappears, and moves on to the next target.'

9 - The Distance Between Us by Kasie West

'Seventeen-year-old Caymen Meyers studies the rich like her own personal science experiment, and after years of observation she's pretty sure they're only good for one thing - spending money on useless stuff, like the porcelain dolls in her mother's shop.

So when Xander Spence walks into the store to pick up a doll for his grandmother, it only takes one glance for Caymen to figure out he's oozing rich. Despite his charming ways and that he's one of the first people who actually gets her, she's smart enough to know his interest won't last. Because if there is one thing she's learned from her mother's warnings, it's that the rich have a short attention span. But Xander keeps coming around, despite her best efforts to scare him off. And much to her dismay, she's beginning to enjoy his company.

She knows her mom can't find out - she wouldn't approve. She'd much rather Caymen hang out with the local rocker who hasn't been raised by money. But just when Xander's attention and loyalty are about to convince Caymen that being rich isn't a character flaw, she finds out that money is a much bigger part of their relationship than she'd ever realized. And that Xander's not the only one she should've been worried about.'

Book Haul #2 - Merry Christmas to Me...

As it's Christmas time, i've spent far too much time in bookshops for someone who literally cannot go into a shop with books without buying one. So obviously over the past few weeks i've picked up some books for myself (i've also bought one for basically everyone else in my life) so i thought i'd do a little haul of the books i am really excited about reading!

All American Girl by Meg Cabot - So a few years ago my mum bought me a book called All American Girl: Ready or Not and i absolutely loved it, i thought it was one of the best books i'd read in a long time. After i finished reading it i realised that it was actually a sequel and i've wanted to read the first one ever since, so a few weeks ago i picked it up, and omg am i excited! It's about a girl called Sam who saves the life of the president and then ends up dating his son (i think that's what happens?) all i know is that it's meant to be even better than Ready or Not!!

Wish Upon a Star by Trisha Ashley - I'm not going to lie, i bought this book solely for how pretty the cover is. It screams Christmas and it has glitter on it, glitter!! From what i understand it's about a single mother who is quite content with her life and isn't interested in finding a guy and then her daughter gets pretty sick and she puts all her energy into looking after her while balancing writing recipes (btw that sounds like a great job!) Then she meets a baker called Jago and i'm assuming they fall in love. I think this will just be a nice read over Christmas inbetween reading philosophy books for my essays.

Cold Hands by John J. Niven - Okay i can't actually remember what this one is about. I do remember something basically saying "You think you have the perfect life? New wife, lots of money, attractive son? I'm going to take it all away." or something to that effect...I remember reading the back of the book in about 5 shops before i finally bought it, but i remember it sounding great each time and i can't wait to read it and finally figure out what's going on in the story.

Snow White Must Die by Nele Neuhaus - Okay, from what i remember this book is about a guy in a small town in Germany who is accused of killing two girls, one of which was his childhood friend and the other being his very beautiful girlfriend who is known as 'snow white'. He does his time in prison, and when he's released he goes back to his hometown, much to the annoyance of the people who remember what he was accused of. Then another girl in the small town dies and people start accusing him again (i think?) and that's basically all i know...

Game by Anders De La Motte - Okay i know basically nothing about this book. I saw it in Tesco today alongside the second and third books in the trilogy, which i showed restraint and didn't buy, and i thought it sounded really interesting. From what i gather the main guy gets a message inviting him to play a game that leads to all kinds of bad things (i think..?) It looks really interesting, and all the reviews i've read since buying it have all been really good, so i'm going to start reading this alongside my re-read of City of Ashes.

Book Haul #1 - Oxford and Birthday...kind of.

It's been about two weeks since i finished BEDA and wrote my last blog post and i've missed sitting down and writing something everyday, but it's also been nice to not think about what i'm going to write and making sure i put up something before the day ends.

So as i said in one (or a few) of my posts during August, the 27th was my 21st birthday and i went to Oxford for a few days, which was amazing and i got to watch Rocky Horror live which was one of the best things ever! And i also got to go to Blackwell's which is my favourite bookshop in the world. Then when i got back i went shopping and, of course, bought a few more books. So i thought now would be the perfect time to do something i've wanted to do since starting this blog: A BOOK HAUL! (the capitals were needed to express how excited i am...obviously.)

Let's start with the books i bought in Oxford. I only got a few because we were walking around all day and then obviously had to go get ready for the show, but i'm really excited about the books i picked up there.

The first book i found was For Esme ~ with Love and Squalor and Other Stories by J D Salinger. Salinger is one of my favourite authors and although i've already read this and i have it on my kindle i just couldn't walk out of Blackwell's without making it mine. I love that this copy matches both of my copies of The Catcher in the Rye (where this one is blue, they are red) and i can't wait to re-read this with the added bonus of it being a physical copy!

This next book is one i am beyond excited to read! Wittgenstein's Mistress by David Markson sounds so so so so so so good and i can tell that i am going to adore this book! I originally picked it up because, as a philosophy student, i love Wittgenstein's theory of language games and was convinced that if this book named him in the title then it was definitely a book i at least had to check out. The story follows a woman who is convinced that she is the last person alive on earth, and is apparently so convincing that the reader will start to believe her. It sounds so good and i cannot wait to read this!

AH!!! I AM SO EXCITED! I'm really really really happy that i decided to finally pick up this series! This is obviously The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare and i am so ridiculously excited to be able to read these straight after i finish my re-read of The Mortal Instruments. I was a little annoyed that Clockwork Princess was taller than the first two books in the series, but then i noticed the most magical words in the world: collector's edition. Ugh, no two words could make me buy a book faster. This edition has a fold out family tree at the back, which is beyond exciting to me. I am sooooooooo excited to finally be able to read these books!

Every Day by David Levithan was the first book i bought when i got back from Oxford. I've heard so many good things about this book so i am really excited to read this (what a surprise) and i love the bright orange cover that it has, the only cover i had seen before i found this was the black and white cover with the two people(?) but i like this cover a whole lot more. I'm intrigued by the story, i watched a web series that had a similar storyline and i enjoyed that so hopefully i'll enjoy this one too.

United we Spy by Ally Carter is the sixth and final book in the Gallagher Girls series, and i adore this series so i am really excited to see how it ends. This copy has a bonus short story called 'A Gallagher Wedding' so i am stoked to read that because i really do love this story and i just can't wait to do a full re-read of the first five then finish with this. It's going to be a fun autumn/winter!

OMG IS THERE A MORE PERFECT BOOK? This is Marvel's graphic novel version of Jane Austen's Emma. Marvel + Classics = Happy Meghan! I'm going to read this really soon, because it's pretty short and it's a graphic novel so it's not really going to take away from the two books i'm currently reading. I am so excited for this!

omg. Okay, so apart from the Harry Potter series, The Mortal Instruments is probably my favourite series and i LOVED the film (and i may have been slightly devastated at the City of Ashes news) and when i saw this in Ben's video (benjaminoftomes) i knew i had to have it! So as soon as i saw it i grabbed it and basically ran to the counter to pay. It's such a good book, seeing how the book was turned into the movie, and with a few pictures of Jamie Campbell Bower thrown in how could it not be a good book? ;) (Also, if you like books and you watch YouTube, go watch and subscribe to Ben - he's definitely one of my favourites and he's just a wonderful human.)

Much like the book above, as soon as i saw this i had to have it! It's such a cool little guide to all the characters and things you need to know, and as a massive fan of the shadowhunter world, this book makes me all kinds of happy.

So i actually really love the first two books in this series, and yet i've never even thought of buying this book, but when i saw it in the shop yesterday i knew that i wanted to read it and find out what happens between Jess and Fred. Girl, 16 Pants on Fire by Sue Limb is the final book in the trilogy and i am going to start reading this when i finish this post, because it's a pretty easy, quick read and i just need to know if Jess and Fred last, you know?

I don't really know a whole lot about this book. I know that it's about a couple who really want a child, and then they discover this orphan boy who's lost his memory, so they take him in and then weird things start happening...i think? Either way i am very intrigued and excited by The Orphan by Christopher Ransom. Always good when a book is centered on a creepy child.

Again, i don't know a whole lot about The Shining Girls by Lauren Beukes but i know that it sounds super good! From what i remember, it's about a girl who gets attacked and lives, who then goes after the man who attacked her, who she believes has killed many other girls, but he shouldn't exist...at least that's what i get from the back of the book... I know that this sounds like a book i want to read and that would be really interesting to me. I love creepy books, and crime books, and i think this will combine the two very well.

So that's the end of my first book haul :) I had fun...Hopefully i will start blogging in some form of routine from now on, i just don't know what that will be yet.
